Nancy Worlie
KPBS Director of Communications

Nancy Worlie, KPBS Director of Communications, and the KPBS Crisis Team have played a key role in getting the TV station prepared. The team, which meets regularly and consists of individuals from different departments, has been a great success. They have placed disaster kits throughout the station and have informed the staff of the kits’ locations in case of an emergency.

Worlie has been instrumental in raising staff awareness of the importance of preparedness. She arranged a session for employees in which a trained Red Cross instructor gave a presentation that informed the staff about disasters that are most likely to happen in San Diego County, particularly home fires, wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and chemical and technological emergencies. During the session, participants learned what to do in the event of each disaster situation and were better informed as to what actions should be taken to prevent injuries and ensure the safest possible response for all family members and co-workers.

Worlie plans to incorporate the Red Cross presentation, which was recorded, in all new employee orientations. KPBS purchased disaster kits for each reporter to have readily available when going out into the field and safety tubes (small kits with disaster supplies) for their employees. “I’m doing my part to keep KPBS prepared, and I hope that others will do the same.”
